Teardown
What a backlink free trial really gives a local shop
Free trials work for software. Links are different, because the thing you receive stays on someone else's website. This page takes a typical pitch apart.
Bottom line
A backlink free trial is usually a sample, not a test
One free link cannot show you anything, because rankings move on their own schedule. Pay-as-you-go pricing from $1 per link is a more honest trial, since you can stop whenever you like.
- No subscription to cancel
- Pay for one placement, read the result, decide
- Never hand over site logins for a free offer
Teardown of an invented offer
| Line in the pitch | What it usually means | Question to ask |
|---|---|---|
| "Free trial: 10 premium links" | Ten pages on one network the seller owns | Which domains, and can I see them before I accept? |
| "DA 70+ guaranteed" | A score that one tool invented and the seller picked | Which tool, measured on what date? |
| "Then $99 a month" | A subscription that renews until you cancel | Can I buy single links instead? |
| "Results in 14 days" | A promise nobody can keep for rankings | What exactly is delivered in 14 days? |
| "Send us your CMS login" | Access to your whole site | Why does a link need my password? |
Why the arithmetic of a free link is odd
Someone pays for every placement. If you did not, the cost is hidden somewhere else.
Often it is a network of thin pages that exist to host links for any customer, which is exactly the pattern Google targeted in its December 2022 link spam update, and a footprint like that can quietly work against a small shop.
A real trial for a link buyer is small. Buy one placement, on one relevant site, pointing at one page. Wait.
What a fair sample looks like
Fair means small and visible. A single link on a named page, paid for, with the numbers shown.
You see the row, you read the article topic, and you decide. Pricing that is open in advance beats a free item that turns into a contract.
What to check before accepting any trial
- You can see the exact domains before anything goes live
- The link is dofollow and permanent, not removed after the trial
- Domain Rating and traffic are shown per site, and you can verify them in Ahrefs
- There is no card on file that renews on its own
- The page that links to you is about something near your trade
- Nobody asks for access to your website or Google Business Profile
A word on guarantees
Any trial that ends with a promise of position one should end your interest. Rankings depend on Google, on competitors and on your pages.

A cheaper way to test the same idea
Our marketplace has no trial gimmick. You pay per placement, from $1 for the cheapest links up to about $500 for top domains, and nothing is charged while links sit in the basket.
Put two or three links in the basket and read the rows. Does the niche suit your trade? Is the language the one your customers read? Traffic and referring domains are on the same line, so you can compare before paying.
Placements are permanent dofollow, and most go live about 24 hours after payment. Orders show their status under ordered links.
